Being a Hair and Makeup Artist for almost two decades, finding the perfect Styling products is a never-ending quest and much like makeup, there are always new products on the market to try. Not only can this get very expensive but with so many to choose from, it can be very deceiving and overwhelming knowing what to buy. Here I share my top styling products (in no particular order) I absolutely love and have in my professional and or personal kit.

FUDGE SALT SPRAY

This is probably the number one product I use the most on hairstyles. It gives volume, texture and the perfect surf waves in a bottle.

This was actually the first salt spray I ever used many hair-do’s ago, and it is still to this day the one product I always repurchase or go back to after trying new ones.

Let’s face it, the battle of the salt spray is fierce with so many good ones on the market but for some reason, this one gives me the perfect texture I need for both open, short and updos.

I knew I was onto a good thing when I read one of the top hairstylists in the world uses this one, plus all my clients comment on the uplifting scent it has, like you’re on a summer holiday full of pineapples and coconuts, or even better, Pina Coladas!!

ORIBE SOFT LAQUER HEAT STYLING SPRAY

I cant keep my hands off this product as it achieves the most innovative, modern and effective results. Not only is Oribe one of the top hairstylists in the world who looked after the manes of the 90’s supermodels to the modern day sirens, he has created a range of hair products that are collectively my favourite of all time.

Oribe Products not only style the hair perfectly but they are also made to treat the hair. The difference is they are developed in the skincare clinics as opposed to hair clinics giving a luxury to the hair you have never felt before.

The Soft Laquer spray is particularly a game changer for me and the industry as you can either use it to curl and set the hair or to give a poker straight starch finish that both have the lacquer and shine like the floor of a bowling alley.

Spray it on each section and add heat (curling wand, straightener or blow dryer) Once you do this brush it through and your hair has memory, lacquer and shine but also it’s super soft and moveable with a humidity proof seal. Great for hot and humid climates like OZ!

ORIBE ROYAL BLOWOUT HEAT STYLING SPRAY

With Royal fever in the air, this is a product you need and want. The royal blowout can be used on wet or dry hair and as Oribe explains perfectly “It gives the ultimate blowout to smooth even the worst behaved mop. It repairs split ends, nourishes, softens and strengthens the hair giving healthy body and natural shine”

This product protects the hair from heat, rich in argon, ceramides and polymers giving a revolutionary look to blowdried hair. Your hair really will feel like a Royal and with continuous use, your hair will look better and better.

I often use it before I style the hair to give the hair a smooth healthy softness and then I will style and layer my other styling product to give the desired effect I’m after. For example, I will blow dry the royal blowout through the hair and then tongue the hair followed by a dry texturising spray for a bit more cool girl editorial look.

LOREAL PARIS ELNETT SATIN DIAMOND HOLD SHINE

This iconic hairspray has been around for so long it’s now legendary. It delivers a super fine mist that adds shine while providing hold without stiffness.

It’s an excellent spray that can be used over and over again on the same doo, yet won’t build up residue after brushing.

Being a stylist myself, hairspray is something that I buy regularly for almost every hairstyle so it’s not a product I will spend a fortune on, yet it still needs to be result driven.

Priced at $10AUD its no wonder this hairspray has a cult following. The only negative feedback I have is the scent, although, some really like it as it reminds them of their adorable grandma’s well-coiffed hair.

It comes in smaller sizes too which is fabulous for travelling and handbags.

DAVID MALLETT VOLUME POWDER

Volume powders deliver bombshell Bardot hair. They work by delivering a fine powder that lifts the roots for extra volume. There are numerous on the market, however, this one which I discovered recently surpassed all the others I’ve used and tried.

It has a fabulous revolutionary application that delivers light and airy powder with more precision due to the pump action.

It is reinforced with Bamboo adding structure to the hair yet allowing light bounce and volume.

I’m actually really excited about this powder because finally, I can have a bit more sexy volume hair from these magic powders. It’s the only one I can use as my hair is so fine and this one doesn’t build up too much or weigh down the hair.

I love the fresh Green tea fragrance and I love the whole philosophy of this company. All David Mallets products aim to give you that natural effortless french girl look that doesn’t damage the hair or its structure  No testing on animals and completely free from any nasty substances. TIP; Use sparingly as a little goes a long way.

ORIBE DRY TEXTURIZING SPRAY

This revolutionary Va Va Voom dry volume spray has a cult following and has won numerous beauty awards. A bit like a volume powder but so much more. It delivers an invisible dry spray that you can use on the whole head (root and lengths) and layer over and over for incredible volume, texture and sexy lift.

A brilliant alternative to dry shampoo. Absorbs oil at the roots without powdery residue that can be brushed out and manipulated into another doo.

This has been a staple in my life and my hair kit since it launched, and it’s not going anywhere except adding bigger fuller gorgeous cool hair.

BABTISTE DRY SHAMPOO

Before we had volume powders and texturising sprays, we used dry shampoos to not only clean the roots and extend our blow-drys but also to add volume and texture. This one is an Australian classic. Its cheap and it does the job well

TIP; After applying dry shampoo, a great way to get rid of the white residue and give root lift is to blow dry through with the cold setting only. Hot air will melt the oils and be contradictory to the results you want.

SEBASTIAN MOLDING MUD. FIBRE SCULPTURE CREAM

I really love this product and surprisingly for a moulding mud, I use it more for longer hair when I want that moisturised frizz-free hair with texture and structure without stiffness.

For example, After I’ve styled the hair with the desired wave, I will run this through the hair shaft (after warming it up in my hands) to give a more of a high-end look. It looks smooth and shiny but with a bit more grit and moveable texture.

DAVID MALLET HAIR SERUM DM#27

This category of oils/serums was hard to narrow down to my favourite, however, this one made my top edit as its just so wonderfully light and nourishing.

Often these oils can be heavy and greasy weighing the hair down but this one adds vitality and natural shine. It took the uber-talented David Mallett (Australian born who lives and works in Paris) three years of development and the 27th recipe till it was finally just right, hence, it is called Hair Serum #DM027.

It is absorbed immediately as it protects hair from the inside out, providing hydration and instant luxury.

Can be used on wet or dry hair.

Apply before blow dry on hair shaft for ultimate hydration.

Apply on dry ends where it’s more dehydrated.

It will smooth and accentuate curls.

It’s great if you’re at the beach to stop from dehydrating

Made in France

TIP-Use 4-5 pumps and work through the hair at the lower areas that need most nutrition.
